2010

Is almost over and this is my first blog :) Guess I'm not very good at this. Anyway so much has gone on. The kids are doing great, getting bigger, loving school (most of the time). I'm doing well also... had surgery last Tuesday and am feeling a little better everyday.

Josh just switched classes, he still attends Ridgemoor but now he will be going every day from 9:20am to 11:30am. So I get 5 mornings a week to myself!! This morning he didn't want to go and I left him with his teacher and he was crying and screaming for me. :( I felt horrible leaving him! When I picked him up his teacher said he did great! So it's when I leave him that it's hard. He will be on the bus schedule for next week which is good.

Anyway I will try to update more in 2011 :)

Drew just asked a few funny questions....

The first one was as I was dressing Josh in some red bib overall shorts ....Drew says "Mommy why is Josh wearing a farmers suit?" then I was putting Josh's shoes on and he says "Mommy....why does Josh get to wear his shoes in the house?" LOL....

good

I haven't written in a while, mostly b/c things are crazy busy around here. My biggest news is that I ran my first 5k race on May 9th (fifth third riverbank run) and it was AMAZING. Now I am training for my 2nd race in East GR --this time I'm aiming for a 10k. Maybe by the end of the summer I can work up to a 25k??? I'm feeling very good when I run, but I have a little uncomfortableness in my left knee for some reason. I go to the dr on May 27th for my yearly physical so I hope it's no big deal....someone recommended that I do leg extentions and curls to build up the small muscles in my knee.

Anyway the kiddos are doing well. Josh is running, faster then I can even run sometimes. He went to Mary Freebed for physical therapy for 6 weeks and OT for 3 weeks. He was difficult so both sessions were cut a little short. There are still many many things for us to work on. He's still getting therapy at Ken-o-sha through Campus Early childhood center. He loves group therapy especially and his teacher Lea...oh boy does he love her!! I'm sad that she's retiring in August. He is wearing weights on his ankles which helps him to walk more smoothly and I think he may even fall a little less.

We're still in the process of figuring out what school to send the kids to next school year. Two of the three are accepted at Excel. But now the principal at Oakdale Christian is trying to work something out so we can keep our kids there. We'll see what he proposes. Sounds like someone might be willing to sponsor our family!

Megan and Drew are playing soccer (only one more game left) and Eli is playing baseball through southern little league. During summer break Drew will play t-ball. And in the fall all 3 want to play soccer. So we're super duper busy! Oh and I'm playing on our womens softball team on Tuesday nights :)

Terrible 2's

Josh is definately going thru the terrible 2's! He used to be my sweet boy and now he's moody, he hits and throws things at people, he screams when he doesn't get what he want or when he doesn't get his way he flings his head back and throws a fit! UGGH! I want my sweet baby back! I already have 3 others that drive me crazy, why does this one have to go down that road too ;) I have to find a good time out strategy for him---I used to set him on a stair but now he won't stay! I guess I need to take Supernanny's approach and keep putting him there until he stays. It's so hard though b/c sometimes he'll fling himself backwards and hit his head! He gets time out for: hitting someone or throwing something. I tell him "no!" and put him on the step. He will laugh and get down. uggh!
And now when I take Drew to school or pick him up .....Josh wants to play in the classroom. When I tell him it's time to go, he throws his fit....kicks, flings his head back, all while I'm trying to carry him. It's so embarrassing and so hard to hold on to him! Kids will stare like "what's wrong with that kid?" Sometimes I just want to drop him and walk away! :(
I don't remember any of my kids behaving like this. But, then again, they weren't the "baby" of the family. I'm definately going to have to discuss this with his teachers. I think hopefully they can help me get rid of some of these hard behaviors. I just want to cry. My baby is not my baby anymore :(

Joshy's OT

Josh had his first session of OT at Mary Freebed. A nice gal named Susan was his OT. She was great with him! He did some swinging, rolling on top of a ball, blowing bubbles (he cannot do this yet), she tried to get him to follow a ball through a tunnel but he wouldn't, sucking applesauce thru a straw and using Nuk chewers, then we ended w/ some puzzles. Basically we have to work on Vestibular Activites ~ our vestibular system provides info about where we are in space, detects motion and coordinates the movements of our eyes, head and body. It is also closely realated w/ our sense of balance. So vestibular activites include: swinging, sliding, and other activities at a park....rocking, bouncing, dancing jumping....
Another thing to work on is propriocentive activites ~ Our proprioceptive system is very important b/c it give us info about where our body parts are and what they're doing. They want him to do "heavy work" b/c it requires the use of large muscles and joints. So examples of this play are: pushing or pulling games, play wrestling, helping me carry groceries (a box of cereal in his case), sucking activities, blowing activites, crawling activities.
Next is tactile activities...the sense of touch is one of ourmost important senses. touch experiences can help a child feel comfort and security. touch may involve deep pressure or feeling w/ hands and feet. those activities include: rubbing w/ lotion, laying him on couch and pressing him between cushions, roll him up in a blanket, walking barefoot over different surfaces.
So I learned a lot and I hope you did too :)
